Our Creative Composing Summer Camp with Dan Trahey from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Peabody Conservatory was beyond successful. Twenty-five ELM students worked for six hours per day to create a unique piece of music based on an immigration story that they jointly wrote. It included original music and lyrics and was curated by Khida, one of our talented flutists. Dan recently wrote to us:
Dear Jane: "My time at ELM this summer was incredible. I was the one learning during our week together. The student's ability to put very complex world issues such as racism, segregation and immigration into musical ideas and then into complex form and orchestration is unbelievable. ELM students are not only playing at a sophisticated level but are also becoming musical citizens".
